5 Ways to Stay Optimistic in Troubling Times

Lesson for Sunday Morning, October 31

First, See things in a positive light:

Proverbs 23:7 – “For as he thinks within himself, so he is.”

Ephesians 4:29 – Be careful of the words that come from our mouth.

2. Take a note of the company we keep:

1 Corinthians 15:33 – “Bad company corrupts good morals.”

2 Timothy 2:23 – we are to refuse ignorant speculations.

3. Write in a journal for a few minutes each day:

Hebrews 12:28 – be grateful for the kingdom that God has given us.

1 Timothy 4:4 – receive what God has given us with gratitude.

4. Acknowledge what we can and cannot control:

Matthew 6:31 – 34 – We should not worry about tomorrow (how is that going?)

Matthew 6:27 – What good does worrying do for us?

5. Don’t forget to acknowledge the negative:

2 Corinthians 2:11 – After speaking about forgiveness, Paul tells us to be careful that Satan doesn’t take advantage of us.

Proverbs 15:32 – We need to listen to reproof (the hardest thing to do).
