God’s Guidance For New Years Resolutions

Text: Proverbs 3

Why do people make New Year’s resolutions?

Read through Proverbs 3. What are some of the promises it makes to those who listen (hear and apply) its instruction? Note especially these verses:

2-

4-

8-

10 –

24 –

The Big Question: Can the book of Proverbs truly deliver what it promises? What do these verses say about the source of the wisdom that gives us confidence that it indeed can indeed deliver what it promises?

3:19

3:11-12

What important attitude do you see in verse 7?

Specific examples: How could we turn these into resolutions?

Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel.

Proverbs 13:19 A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.

Proverbs 16:3 Commit your works to the LORD, And your thoughts will be established.

Proverbs 23:4 Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! 5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

Proverbs 24:21 My son, fear the LORD and the king; Do not associate with those given to change.

Proverbs 28:13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

Proverbs 28:27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.
