Some irony to get us started: We often make the valid point that the building where we meet is NOT the church! But according to this week’s metaphor, the church IS a building!
Read about the church as a building in these verses: 1 Corinthians 3:9-17, Ephesians 2:19-22, Matthew 16:13-19, 1 Peter 2:4-8, 2 Corinthians 6:16, Romans 15:2, 1 Corinthians 14:26, Psalm 127:1.
Why do men build buildings?
What are some features of buildings that have an application when you consider that the church is a building?
Why is Jesus called the foundation and chief cornerstone?
In way are the apostles and prophets also a part of the foundation?
What makes up the walls of this building? (1 Peter 2)
What purposes of the building do you see in 1 Corinthians 3:16, and 1 Timothy 3:15, and 1 Peter 2:5?
One New Testament word that relates to buildings is “edify”, from which we get edifice (which means a building). What does it mean to “edify one another”? What warning does Paul give about this in 1 Corinthians 3:10-17?
