The Church As A Body

One of the most important metaphors the New Testament uses to describe the church is that the church is a body. Read about this in Romans 12:4-8, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, Ephesians 1:22-23, Ephesians 3:6, Ephesians 4:4-16, Ephesians 5:22-23, Hebrews 13:1-3.

What features of our physical bodies have a parallel in the spiritual body of Christ?

What applications do you see stressed in these verses:

1 Corinthians 12:15-16

1 Corinthians 12:17

1 Corinthians 12:18 (important! give this one some thought!) Is this true of our physical bodies, the spiritual body, or both?)

1 Corinthians 12:21

1 Corinthians 12:26

Ephesians 4:16

Hebrews 13:3

What lesson stands out to you the most when you think of the church as a body?

Review some of the metaphors we have studied: what role did Jesus play in each?

How do we apply the truth that Christ is the head of the Church?
