For Sunday April 21 – Seeing Jesus In the Old Testament #17 – Psalm 110 and 118

This lesson wraps up our series on seeing Jesus in the Old Testament. Today we are looking at two statements in the Book of Psalms that were prophecies about Jesus.

Psalm 110 begins, “The LORD said to my Lord, sit at My right hand till I make your enemies your footstool”.

This is understood to be a prophecy of the Messiah (Luke 20:41-44). Note how Jesus uses the prophecy in questioning the Jewish teachers in Jerusalem. What does it reveal about the Messiah?

What does the rest of the Psalm reveal about the Messianic kingdom?

Psalm 118:22 says “the Stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone”. This is quoted in Acts 4:11 by Peter and applied to Jesus.

Read Jesus’ parable of the Wicked Vinedressers (Matthew 21:33). How does this help us understand Psalm 118?

What else to we learn about the stone from 1 Peter 2:4-10?

What else does Psalm 118 reveal about the Messiah’s kingdom?

Thanks for being a part of this study! Curtis Cook will lead our study on April 28th, then on May 5 we will begin a study of the book of Revelation.
